Errington’s Patrick Chenier has lost his bid as conservative party candidate for the 2015 federal election in the newly formed federal riding of Courtney-Alberni.

“It was a really good campaign and I guess at the end I didn’t come out on top but my whole campaign team was great and very supportive and it was a close result at the end,” he said.

Chenier lost to John Duncan, an MP since 1993 and a cabinet minister who currently represents Vancouver Island North.

Duncan issued a statement on the weekend.

“I am very pleased to once again have the privilege of running as a conservative candidate,” said Duncan.  “I believe that our government has provided strong leadership in a time of great global uncertainty, and I will be proud to represent the party in Courtenay—Alberni in the next election.”

The new boundaries will not be in place until the next federal election, which is scheduled to take place in October, 2015.

The new Courtenay-Alberni riding will include Courtenay, Baynes Sound, Denman and Hornby Islands, Cumberland, Port Alberni, Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Tofino and Ucluelet.
