City launches system to access public files

Move done to help residents get better service at city hall

People looking for City of Parksville information now have a new online tool.

The city introduced a “FilePro” feature to their website at www.parksville.ca that enables the public to search an online database of key documents like council meeting agendas, minutes, bylaws and related reports.

Council voted to hire Civic Web to provide the service for an initial cost of $6,400 — plus $5,400 for the next five years, including posting the searchable minutes and agendas back to 2009 as well as the first batch of policies and bylaws.

Parksville director of administrative services, Debbie Comis, explained that as time permits, earlier documents will be added by staff.

Reports as part of council and committee of the whole meetings will now be linked to the meeting minutes for permanent reference.

She listed many benefits including easier access for the public, staff and councilors and the system provides a valuable off-site backup system in the case of an emergency or crisis.

For assistance with the system contact the city’s communications officer Debbie Tardiff at 250-954-3073 or communications@parksville.ca.
