City staff are dedicated to creating and maintaining the city’s infrastructure and help keep the community strong by providing many public works services, such as; clean drinking water, wastewater, stormwater treatment, maintenance of public buildings and spaces, safe roads and sidewalks, street lighting and traffic signals, snow removal, fire hydrant maintenance, fleet services, and the beautification of the city through parks and trails, floral displays, irrigation installation and maintenance, and horticulture and arborist services.

Since 1960, the third week in May has been celebrated as National Public Works Week.

Municipalities across Canada use this week to educate, engage and inform the public about the essential role of public works in the quality of life of the community.

For the past two years, city staff have navigated their vital roles through the pandemic, sustaining daily operations which enhance the quality of life and safety of Parksville residents and make the city a better place to live.

The city is proud to highlight the services provided by public works and hope the open house will increase awareness of the work necessary to maintain city infrastructure and services. The open house is also an opportunity to promote public works as a career choice.
