City okays Rogers to mount Telus tower

Shared use will benefit all players

Parksville city council will allow Rogers Communications to install equipment on a new Telus cell tower being built near the Top Bridge reservoir.

The city approved the Telus tower last October at the same time they began looking at the possibility of including one in an expanded fire hall hose tower — which was ultimately denied. The new agreement with Rogers specifically precludes them from building a separate tower and is contingent on them working out the details with Telus.

Rogers will pay the city $10,000 a year for the site agreement for five years with the right to extend for consecutive periods of five years without notice as long as Rogers is not in default.
