City sets watering restrictions

Parksville moves on to Water Conservation Level 2 as spring heats up

The City of Parksville reminds residents they are on Water Conservation Level 2, as set by the city’s new schedule last summer to co-ordinate with the Regional District of Nanaimo’s four-level system.

Level 2 (watering allowed every other day — four hour window — May to August) runs from May 1 through the end of August unless conditions require a move to the more restricted Level 3 (same as above, but only for two-hours).

Under Level 2 residents can water lawns for up to four hours every other day between 6 and 10 a.m. and 6 and 10 p.m.

Even numbered houses can water on even days and odd numbered houses on odd days.

The restrictions are intended to ensure an adequate supply of water through the dry summer months including emergency firefighting reserves.

The city thanks residents, pointing out restrictions have proven successful in reducing peak demand, which reduces the cost to operate the water utility.

Vegetable gardens, shrubs and flowers are restricted to hand watering (including a hand held hose) and automobile washing is permitted during allotted times with a shut off equipped hose.
