City staff need more space

Parskville city council was scheduled to review the issue Wednesday night

City staff is running out of room in the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre and is asking council to take over the space recently vacated by MLA Ron Cantelon.

The city and school district, which co-own the building with the library, are now fully using their original spaces.

According to a staff report going to council Wednesday night after press deadline, city information technology and bylaw compliance staff are occupying finance and planning department space.

The report suggests many benefits of expanding into the vacated MLA space including consolidating administration, opening planning department capacity, providing future expansion or temporary work space and more adequate storage for information technology.

The rental value of the space is estimated at $27,500 per year in current market conditions. Council was scheduled to review the issue Wednesday night.
