The Regional District of Nanaimo kicked off its “Water to Earth Month” Sunday with an interactive celebration of World Water Day at Parksville Community and Conference Centre.
The RDN is tying together World Water Day with Earth Day in April by scheduling a wide range of events and activites between those days.
Sunday’s event in Parksville featured a wide range of informational and vendor booths.
They included commercial irrigation companies as well as representatives from local organizations like Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers, Friends of French Creek Society and the Mid Vancouver Island Habitat Enhancement Society.

The Vancouver Aquarium’s BC Hydro Aquavan, with its display of live aquatic creatures, animal skins and skulls and touch tank, proved popular with the many youngsters who joined their parents for the event.
There was also a concession and live music performances.
A number of workshops were also held throughout the day, covering WaterWise gardening, efficient irrigation and rain gardens.
Other activities in the coming weeks will include stream walks, river rafting, educational tours, movie nights and additional workshops and festival-style community events.
