Construction starts on Parksville water plant/intake; parts of Top Bridge Park closed

The $30-plus million project is expected to be finished by summer 2018

With the award of the contract for the Englishman River Water Service project for the water intake, water treatment plant and Top Bridge reservoir transmission main, the contractor, Knappett Projects Inc, told the City of Parksville it intended to start work on Monday. This work will involve the clearing and grubbing of some of the vegetation located in Top Bridge Park.

To accommodate this work and necessary for the ongoing safety of residents and visitors, a section of the Top Bridge Regional Trail will be closed during construction, according to a news release from the city. This closure will occur from south of the E & N Railway overpass to sections within Top Bridge Park. Closure signage will be posted at trailhead locations at the Industrial Park access, the end of Greig Road and in the parking lot at Top Bridge Park.

The city is asking everyone to respect the trail closure as it is for the safety of the public. It is anticipated the Englishman River Water Service project will be completed during summer 2018.
