Coombs trailer destroyed in morning blaze

Occupant sent to hospital for observation: Coombs-Hilliers fire chief

A charred mess of metal and wood is all that’s left of a trailer and a vehicle in the Coombs area after a fire destroyed the structure on Jan. 5.

The Coombs-Hilliers Volunteer Fire Department were called to the fire at about 9 a.m., said the department’s chief, Aaron Poirier. They responded to the fire, located in Pires Mobile Park off of the Alberni Highway, along with Errington, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Dashwood fire departments.

“They arrived on scene to find a fully involved trailer on arrival,” he said.

Paramedics responded as well, taking the occupant of the trailer to Nanaimo for observation, said Poirier.

BC Hydro also attended for electrical safety.

Some exposure damage was also done to a neighbouring trailer.

“The fire is still under investigation as of this point,” Poirier said.
