Couple rescued near OK Lake

Arrowsmith Search and Rescue helps in search up Northwest Bay logging road west of Parksville- couple not injured or hospitalized

Members of Arrowsmith Search and Rescue scrambled to rescue a Nanoose Bay couple on the weekend whose vehicle had become stuck in deep snow.

Spokesperson Ken Neden said ASAR members got the call for help just after 5 p.m. on Sunday. "We had a couple up driving around Northwest Bay division, exploring around OK Lake area," Neden said. "They got into really icy, deep snow and got stuck."

The couple, who had their dog with them, spent a couple of hours trying to dig themselves out before they decided to call for help.

"They were lucky to get cell reception," Neden said. "That gave a location to 911."

About 20 ASAR volunteers scrambled to the rescue, scouring logging roads in the area with half a dozen vehicles and a trio of quads.
