Crash sends Parksville woman to hospital

A Nanaimo man has been charged with failure to yield

A 67-year-old Parksville woman was taken to hospital and a Nanaimo man was charged with failure to yield following a two-car collision on Highway 4 in Parksville Monday evening, Oceanside RCMP said.

At 8:22 p.m. July 25, RCMP were called to the scene of the accident under the Highway 19 overpass across Highway 4. The 34-year-old man had exited Highway 19 northbound in a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup. When he attempted a left turn into the westbound lane of Hwy. 4, he was struck by the woman's 2007 Kia Rondo, which was travelling eastbound from Errington into Parksville and which had the right of way, RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman said. The Nanaimo man has been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for failure to yield. The response included RCMP, B.C. Ambulance and Parksville Fire Rescue. Traffic was disrupted as RCMP made a preliminary investigation of the scene.
