This week and next the City of Parksville is working on the two main railway crossings in the city.
On Monday they began work to repair the double crossing on Highway 4A (the Alberni Highway) near the old train station, including tie replacements on the south crossing and the installation of track seals on both.
The new track seal system will require paving work, which will improve the road grade and reduce the bumps for vehicles crossing the tracks, explained city staff.
Next week city work crews will also replace the existing rubber matting and do minor paving work at “Craig’s Crossing” on Highway 19A at the south end of the city.
The $81,000 cost was budgeted last year and is not part of efforts to upgrade the E&N Railway.
Both projects are scheduled for completion September 7, depending on weather. Drivers should expect short delays at both locations.
