Cut in garbage collection could cut taxes as well

Qualicum Beach has switched to collecting once every two weeks

Residents of Qualicum Beach might get some good news in their tax bill, thanks to the municipality’s move from a weekly to bi-weekly garbage collection.

Speaking at last Wednesday’s special council meeting, Mayor Teunis Westbroek said he has asked town staff to prepare a summary report about garbage collection, noting that the town’s separate billing for composting is taking up much of the garbage bulk.

He said the potential saving could result in as much as a one per cent reduction in the town’s tax increase.
