The Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire on Oakdowne Road, east of Qualicum Bay today (July 12) at about 3 p.m.

Firefighters found a home with smoke and light flames showing, said the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department. As there were no fire hydrants in the area, water had to be shuttled by water tenders. In total, two engines, four tenders, and four command vehicles attended with 25 firefighters on the scene.

Nobody was hurt, said an RCMP officer on the scene. The structure was a shed turned into a home. Firefighters kept the fire to the one structure, and had it out quickly before it could spread.
