Dog bylaw change sought

Qualicum Beach resident plans to call for more power to be given to bylaw officer

When Qualicum Beach town council sits down for their first full council meeting Monday night, they’ll be asked to take a stricter line on dog control.

Resident Garry Young has signed on to appear as a delegation at the meeting and plans to call for an amendment to the animal control bylaw to allow the bylaw control officer to pick up an animal without having to go to court, to investigate an incident and make a determination and give the owner a 30-day appeal process, should the determination conclude that the animal should be put down. He is also calling for all costs associated with the revised bylaw be paid by the animal’s owner, should it be determined a town bylaw has been broken.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. on Monday in the town hall council chambers.
