Don’t blame staff for council decisions – mayor

Qualicum Beach push to have two vicious dogs put down came from council, not staff

If people want to be upset about the Town of Qualicum Beach calling for two vicious dogs to be euthanized, that’s all very fine says the mayor, but they should direct their anger and blame at council, not town staff.

Responding to a guest shot column in Tuesday’s edition of The News that castigated town staff for seeking to have the dogs put down after they attacked a resident and her pet in Qualicum Beach, Westbroek said the anger was misdirected.

“John Marsh is the supervisor of bylaw enforcement and he works on behalf of council,” Westbroek said. “He’s taking direction from council decisions, so he’s the messenger for council and if anyone has a concern about the decisions being made, they need to talk to council. It’s not fair to attack Mr. Marsh for the job he’s doing.”

Bylaw officer Don Marshall said the matter is currently before the courts and he is waiting to see the outcome before he takes any further action.
