Elaine Young is running for re-election as trustee on the School District 69 (Qualicum) board.
“Gratitude comes first for me. So thank you to the PQB News for asking us to submit a short article on trusteeship,” Young wrote in a news release. “I am also grateful for the pleasure of living here, a place that has been inhabited for many centuries by the Snaw-naw-as and Qualicum Nations. Finally, thanks to all who have supported me in my past eight years as school trustee and in my current re-election bid.”
Young is a dedicated educator with almost 30 years experience as a teacher, counsellor and school trustee. She is a public servant who believes in honest, constructive communication, collaboration and in putting students at the centre of every decision.
“I strongly support educational equity,” Young said, in the release. “So that all students receive whatever they need to reach their full social, emotional and academic potential.
Young models active trusteeship and supports good and clearly defined governance structure, guided by a collaboratively developed strategic plan.
She regularly visits her liaison schools and meet with parents, educators and sometimes students. Young also attends multiple and varied meetings, including Committees of the Whole, public and in-camera board meetings, discussion meetings, retreats, local and provincial school trustee conferences, and most District Parent Advisory meetings.

Other committee responsibilities include policy chair, longterm service and retirement recognition chair, social justice committee co-chair, French advisory council, Oceanside Community Track steering committee, Early Years Table and Oceanside Health and Wellness Network co-facilitator.
She also reviews Parksville city council meetings for School Board 69.
