Following an emotional and well-attended service Saturday for Lukas Whibley, who perished in a tragic swimming accident at Little Qualicum Falls, the Save-On-Foods Oceanside Generals will host a silent auction at their exhibition game next week to help the family.

The Facebook link is called Silent Auction for the Whibley family.

The silent auction will be held at the Generals' final exhibition game before the start of the new Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season. The exhibition game is against the Nanaimo Buccaneers, and starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Oceanside Place.

Anyone who would like to contribute items for the auction or would like to volunteer e-mail Megan Olsen at olsen_megan@yahoo.ca or call 250-937-0999 Silent auction donations can be dropped off at PostNet in Parksville.

Admission to the exhibition game is $5. The Generals say proceeds from the admission money collected will go to a scholarship fund in Whibley's name.
