Firefighters responded to a call at 11 a.m. Thursday about smoke inside the building of a seniors home in Qualicum Beach.

According to deputy fire chief of the Qualicum Beach Fire Department, fire crews searched the floors of The Gardens and found burned plastic residue on a stove.

One resident said it was a plastic plate that was left on a heating element.

Some residents remained sheltered in their rooms during the search while others stayed outside the building until they were allowed back inside at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Fire crews from Coombs, Dashwood and Parksville all responded to the call and were on standby.
