Area residents will find their copies of the Parksville Qualicum Beach News a little bulkier on Tuesday.

That’s because they’ll be stuffed with paper bags from Qualicum Foods that members of the Dashwood, Parksville and Qualicum Beach fire departments, along with members of Arrowsmith Search and Rescue will be collecting on Saturday, Nov. 17 and Sunday, Nov. 18 — hopefully full of food.

Qualicum Beach firefighters will have trucks circulating through neighbourhoods from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to collect donations of non-perishable foods. There will also be dropoff points at Qualicum Foods, and the BC Government Liquor Store on Primrose. On Sunday, donations can be dropped off at the fire hall between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. There is also a bin at town hall.

In Parksville, firefighters will go door to door from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Donations can also be taken to Quality Foods in Parksville, the Salvation Army or the fire hall.

In Dashwood, firefighters will have trucks patrolling the neighbourhood from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Donations can also be dropped off at either fire station.

Search and Rescue volunteers will tour the Chartwell area on Saturday only.

Besides food such as macaroni, canned goods, rice, powdered milk, juice boxes and cereal, toys and donations of cash will be welcomed.
