The food truck festival phenomenon has made its way to Qualicum Beach.

At Monday’s (March 20) meeting, Qualicum Beach town council voted in favour of the Qualicum Beach Farmers’ Market hosting its inaugural Food Truck Festival on June 16.

Coun. Neil Horner excused himself from the vote since this summer he will have a booth at the market.

The festival would run on the Friday from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Veteran’s Way at the Qualicum Beach Community Hall. The event would include entertainment (bluegrass and folk music), food trucks along Veteran’s Way and local brewing companies.

Market organizers, according to Monday’s (March 20) agenda, are expecting an estimated 200 people in attendance for the ticketed event despite it being its first year.

The food trucks include Extreme Eatz, Taco Revolution, Farm to Fire Pizza and Zias Samosas, with Mount Arrowsmith Brewing Co. and Corlan Vineyards.

The organizers have co-ordinated with the Seaside Cruizers annual Show ‘n Shine to make sure there are no competing activities that weekend.

Council also approved the Seaside Cruizers’ annual Father’s Day Show ‘n Shine on Sunday, June 18, on the streets of the downtown core, which will run from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. They also approved the Seaside Cruizers to hold the Show ‘n Shine Street Dance the night before on June 17.

Other events council approved include: The Youth Appreciation Lunch in conjunction with Kwalikum Secondary School (KSS) students on May 5 at 11:15 a.m. in Glassford Square in front of town hall; the Town of Qualicum Beach’s 75th Anniversary on May 6; the KSS Grad Parade on June 3 — the parade will run from the high school along Village Way, turning left onto Memorial Avenue, turning right onto Second Avenue to Jones Street before ending at the civic centre; and the 45th annual St. Mark’s Fair on July 22 from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m on Veteran’s Way from Memorial Avenue to Berwick Road.

The next regular council meeting is April 10 at 7 p.m.
