Gilbert “Gib” Roy Pamplin
December 29, 1924 – September 24, 2013
Gib passed away on Tuesday, September 24th at The Gardens in Qualicum Beach. Predeceased by his wife, Marion; son, Brian; parents Roy and Gladys; sisters, Eva and Jean; brother, Doug; and most recently by partner Clare Whitehead. He will be sadly missed by his son, Bruce (Maureen); grandchildren Craig (Chantale), Shawna (Mike), and Gregory; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kate, Evan, and Nolan; numerous nieces and nephews.
Although separated by distance, his brother-in-law Ken, sister-in-law, Doris, and childhood friends Lil and Chuck were always in his heart and on his mind.
Born and raised in and around Toronto, Gib trained and served as a bombardier during WWII. When the war ended, he met and married Marion and attended the University of Toronto successfully studying to become a mechanical engineer. Gib spent his working years in Toronto relocating to Vancouver Island after loosing his wife, Marion in 1993.
Gib was a long-time member of PGOSA, enjoying the fellowship and the involvement in sporting activities especially golf, hockey, and baseball. His other interests included much loved salmon fishing trips with his brother-in-law, Ken, travel, and as a member of The Ramblers performing at local senior’s venues throughout Oceanside. He also loved to putter and considered himself somewhat of a handyman and, in his free time, dabbled in both oil painting and sketching.
Gib will be fondly remembered for his quiet zest for life, his positive outlook and his determination not to give in to his illness or be slowed by his years.
There will be no service by his request. Interment will take place in Brampton, Ontario at a later date.
