LASQUETI ISLAND — Funding has been approved to install a solar power hot water system at False Bay School on Lasqueti Island, hopefully by this summer, according to School District 69 (Qualicum) secretary treasurer Bernice Hannam.

LASQUETI ISLAND — Funding has been approved to install a solar power hot water system at False Bay School on Lasqueti Island, hopefully by this summer, according to School District 69 (Qualicum) secretary treasurer Bernice Hannam.

The project, funded through a Ministry of Environment grant, was a priority on the island which doesn’t have an electrical utility. The school generates its own power.

The school and district are also in the process of applying for funding for a photovoltaic system to generate electricity directly from the sun.
