The RCMP in Nanaimo are crediting a “Good Samaritan” for turning a large sum of money over to them that they hope to return to its owner.
The money was found approximately three weeks ago on a sidewalk in a neighbourhood in Nanaimo’s north end, according to a Nanaimo RCMP press release.
The 37-year-old man who found the cash told police he had just headed out for his morning run. It was around 7:30 a.m. when he caught sight of what appeared to be Canadian currency lying on the sidewalk. When he stopped to pick it up he saw more bills strewn about. He didn’t see an envelope anywhere and it appeared that the money had originally been folded. He picked it all up, carried on with his run and upon returning home called the police who came and took possession of the money.
“Our Good Samaritan was quite shocked by the amount of cash there was and just hopes that the owner can be found and gets reunited with their money,” said reserve Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, in the release.
The amount of money is somewhere between $200 and $2,000. Anyone who lost a significant amount of money is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP detachment non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2022-19186.
