The Minister of Children and Family Development, Mitzi Dean, and Parksville-Qualicum MLA Adam Walker got the opportunity to tour the Into the Woods Early Learning Studio that is set to open in Qualicum Beach later this year.
Along with Mayor Teunis Westbroek, members of council and staff, they had first glimpse of the 3,269 square foot childcare centre, that features an outdoor play area.
The studio was made possible through the $1,996,724 grant from the ChildCareBC’s New Spaces Fund, with the Town of Qualicum Beach contributing the land and also assisting in covering some of the shortfall that occurred when construction costs escalated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UBCM Community Child Care Space Creation Program also funded the studio that will provide 37 new spaces — 12 infants and 25 three- to five-year-olds.
This facility will be fully accessible and inclusive to children with extra and diverse support needs, and the space was designed to suit these needs.
They will also offer programs, services and information to support Indigenous communities and culture and for newly-landed immigrants. As well, there will be education and services for young parents.
