After what he described as much consideration, Al Greir has decided to run for Parksville city council once again.
Greir said this is the most important election Parksville residents will have to face in some time.
"There is so much at stake in the next four years — we face the crossroads financially, and good decisions must be made. I want to be part of that process and your voice on council," he said in a news release.
"There is no room this term for those supporting the status quo," Greir added. "We will need to elect strong people who are capable of making tough decisions. Since 2000, taxes have increased 54 per cent, commercial 59 per cent."
"If elected, I will make a motion at our first budget meeting to freeze taxes for at least the next two years. With a new mayor and council this can happen with sound financial decisions."
Greir said the new water treatment plant and aquifer and recovery system along with the "elephant in the room," the spiraling costs of running the city, are just two of the major problems facing council.
"As a concerned resident I must continue, with my experience in business and on council to keep cost down. Parksville will need a progressive and aggressive Council to accomplish that. With your support on election day I will continue to work on your behalf to spend your tax dollars wisely."
