Terry Kelloway has four children of his own and knows how bullying can have a deep impact on young people in our schools — and beyond.

That’s why he — and other Roto Rooter plumbing services offices in the area — are getting behind Pink Shirt Day on Feb. 23. They plan on donating a portion of all service calls on that day — plus a company donation — to the Boys and Girls Club of Nanaimo, to help with their anti-bullying efforts.

Kelloway said the idea of Pink Shirt Day grew out of a bullying incident on the east coast years ago, that saw a boy — who wore a pink shirt on the first day of school — bullied by classmates. Others, however, took up the pink mantle in support of their peer — and against bullying.

The effort has ballooned since then, said Kelloway, “but the sad part is we still don’t have a handle on it.”

He added he is hoping for a good response to their effort this Wednesday. For more, call 250-248-8743.
