One horse is dead and another escaped without injury after an unusual motor vehicle collision on Island Highway.

One horse is dead and another escaped without injury after an unusual motor vehicle collision on Island Highway on Friday.

Oceanside RCMP Sergeant Darrell Robertson said police were called to a crash near the Nanoose Bay Esso just past 11 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a severely damaged Ford Escape, driven by an 85-year-old Nanaimo woman, along with one dead horse hit by her vehicle and another that was traumatized by the impact.

The woman was not injured in the crash and the matter remains under investigation by the RCMP.
