Horses to ride through Parksville Nov. 24

Contributing to the Society of Organized Services' Christmas is for Kids campaign, it's the 16th annual Silver Spurs' Toy Ride

As many as 40 horses could parade through Parksville Nov. 24 for the 16th annual Silver Spurs’ Toy Ride for the SOS.

Contributing to the Society of Organized Services’ Christmas is for Kids campaign, the ride will repeat last year’s successful new route takes a new route this year starting and finishing at Ballenas Secondary School, looping into downtown on Morrison Ave. to stop at the SOS and Stanford Place.

Organized by Silver Spurs Riding Club members, they collect toys before and during the ride that go to the SOS toy shop where families in need can select presents. Parksville granted permission for use of the public streets from noon to 2 p.m., with the report from staff pointing out the event is always well run and will include a “pooper-scooper” truck. The public is encouraged to catch the mini-parade, enjoy the festive atmosphere and donate a toy. People can pat the horses (with the rider’s permission) when they are stopped.
