Police are seeking anyone with information on a hit-and-run incident that took place in downtown Nanaimo on Tuesday night.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, a woman, 63, suffered injuries as she was crossing the intersection of Commercial Street and Terminal Avenue at around 8:15 p.m. the night of Jan. 22 when she was struck by a vehicle. She was legally walking in the crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle, which was making a left turn onto Terminal from Commercial. The vehicle left the scene.

The woman was knocked down and suffered significant injuries, although none were life-threatening, the press release said. Paramedics attended the scene and the woman was transported to hospital where she was treated.

Shortly after, a Toyota Camry matching the description was found on Cliff Street, near Terminal, abandoned. The registered owner is from the Lower Mainland, say police, and investigators will contact the person, said the press release.

The investigation is ongoing.
