Recognizing the trouble other big annual events are experiencing in the Parksville-Qualicum Beach area, KidFest board chair Bonnie Wallis is calling on the community to help keep the popular family event alive.
"To the best of the my knowledge, there will be one remaining board member, who may or may not be able to stay on," she said of herself and two others planning to step down at the coming AGM.
"It's a life interruption," she said explaining she has done it for five years and wants to focus on other commitments including her new granddaughter.
She said the more board members the better, but they have managed with four in recent years. Some of their key committee coordinators are staying on, but they could always use more support she said, pointing out that more people means less work for each of the volunteer organizers.
Wallis said that while they are in serious need of more help, she is confident the event will go ahead and points out that when they announced they were in trouble a couple years ago the community really stepped up.
She said in the past that volunteering for the event not only helps provide a great event for children and families, but is a fun and educational opportunity for volunteers.
