They called it A Night of Love for Baby Treyton and by any measure, that's exactly what the dinner and auction fundaiser Sunday night turned out to be.
The event, organized by an ad-hoc group of area women, was held at the Cuckoo restaurant in Coombs Sunday night to pull together funds to help the family of a child born with spina bifida.
"A night of Love for Baby Treyton was a huge success," said organizer Leah Carlos. "We want to thank everyone who came and all of the sponsors who helped out. We successfully raised more than $10,000 for the Brooks Family. Treyton's family has a very long road ahead of them, with every day brings an unknown."
Spina bifida is a developmental congenital disorder caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube. Some vertebrae overlying the spinal cord are not fully formed and remain unfused and open.
"It is important to know that every time Treyton grows, damage can occur to his fragile little body," Carlos said. "We will continue to raise money for the family so that they can provide the therapies that Treyton needs, as well as have support during their numerous trips to Vancouver to B.C. Children's Hospital."
Along with the numerous individual donations, Carlos made a point of extending special thanks to a local business that stepped up to the plate.
"We want to thank Harris Oceanside GM for their generous contributions to the family," she said.
