Man dead after police hear gunshot coming from motorhome in Qualicum Beach neighbourhood

RCMP Emergency Response Team made entry into the motorhome, and located the man deceased from what is believed to be a self-inflicted injury

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Oceanside RCMP, with support from the Island District RCMP Emergency Response Team, say they responded to a report of a man in possession of a firearm, threatening self-harm on a residential property on Dogleg Close in Qualicum Beach.

In a news release, police said they arrived at the scene a short time later and safely evacuated one individual off the property. Based on information provided to the responding officers, the man was believed to be inside a motorhome on the property.

At approximately 11:30 a.m, officers heard what they believed to be a gunshot resonate from inside the motor home. The RCMP Emergency Response Team made entry into the motorhome, and located the man deceased from what is believed to be a self-inflicted injury. No shots were fired by police.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO B.C.) has been notified of this incident. The IIO B.C. is not asserting jurisdiction over this matter, at this time. The B.C. Coroners Service was notified of this death, and is investigating.
