Man facing attempted murder charges after stabbings Friday night in Qualicum Beach

Police say they quickly located the 33-year-old suspect coming out of the bush and he was arrested without incident

A 33-year-old man may be facing attempted murder charges after stabbings in Qualicum Beach on Friday night.

Oceanside RCMP say shortly before 11 p.m. Friday they were called to a residence in Qualicum Beach to reports of a stabbing incident. Officers located two stabbing victims inside the home. One victim, a 42-year-old man, had superficial stab wounds to his head and was in stable condition. Another male, a 29-year-old, had stab wounds to his hands, chest and abdomen and was in critical condition.

Police say they quickly located the suspect coming out of the bush. He was arrested without incident.

B.C. Ambulance personnel treated the man with minor injuries at scene and he was released from care. The other male with significant injuries, the 29-year-old, was transported to Nanaimo Regional Hospital. Police say he has received several surgeries and remains in hospital, now in stable condition (as of Monday morning).

Investigators determined that the suspect lived at the residence with his sister and her husband. The other male was a visiting friend. All parties were known to one another and police say it has not been determined what started this familial situation and why it escalated. The two victims in this case are not being investigated for any wrongdoing.

The suspect was held in custody over the weekend and was scheduled to make his first appearance in Nanaimo Provincial Court on Monday. Police said charges of attempted murder are being considered by Crown counsel.
