MEDAL FOR MAYOR: Parksville Mayor Chris Burger, right,  receives the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal on Monday from Nanaimo-Alberni MP Dr. James Lunney. Burger was nominated by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for his contributions to his community. Burger was elected as Town of Qualicum Beach councillor in 1996, serving three years. He was elected to City of Parksville council in2002, appointed acting mayor in January 2011 and has served as mayor since the municipal election in November 2011.Burger was the youngest councillor to be elected in Town of Qualicum Beach. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal honours significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. Throughout the year, 60,000 deserving Canadian will be recognized. Lunney said 30 individuals in his riding has received medals. The medal was created by the Government of Canada to mark 60 years of service by Queen Elizabeth II.
