Nothing gives you more insight into a novel than meeting the author, and that is exactly the opportunity you’ll have on Nov. 13 from 3-4 p.m. at the Mulberry Bush Bookstore’s Parksville location.
Caren Powell, a Victoria-based writer, will be at the store signing copies of her novel The Dark Side of the Rainbow.
“We’re delighted to have her,” Barb Pope, co-owner of the Mulberry Bush Bookstores.
Powell and her husband will visit the shop as part of their Vancouver Island tour. Everyone is welcome to come meet the couple and have Powell sign a copy of the book. Pope said guests are also welcome to hang around and talk with the author during the event.
According to a news release, the Powells lived on a farm in South Africa for 30 years during the apartheid era and changeover. The Dark Side of the Rainbow is a fictionalized account of their experiences, as well as an exploration of the fight for freedom and change and the rise of Nelson Mandela.
“It’s a fabulous read,” said Pope.
Although the book was published last spring, Pope said the bookstore decided to host the authors in the fall because of how busy the business is in summer.
The book is featured just inside the door at both the store’s Parksville and Qualicum Beach locations. However, the book signing will only take place in Parksville.
