A search on the ground, in the air and on the water is underway in Qualicum Beach after a man went missing Thursday morning.

Arrowsmith Search and Rescue search manager Ken Neden said the 69-year-old man left his home at 11 a.m. Thursday morning and hasn’t been seen since.

“His wife came out and he was gone,” Neden said Friday. “She said he hasn’t been himself for the last couple of weeks and there is a concern about his whereabouts.”

Neden noted the man left his heavy coat behind when he went out and he was not dressed for the weather.

A total of 29 Arrowsmith Search and Rescue volunteers fanned out after they received the call Thursday, along with members of the Coast Guard and a civilian airplane, but no trace of the man was found before nightfall.

The search resumed Friday morning, with about 20 ASAR volunteers combing trails near the beach and walking nearby neighbourhoods. They were joined by two civilian search dogs, as well as the RCMP search dog.

The missing man is described as six feet tall, with grey hair.

At this time, the search is continuing. Watch The News for updates on this developing story.
