Although police have scaled back their search for a missing Qualicum Beach man, they are still asking members of the public to keep their eyes peeled.

Oceanside RCMP Corporal Richard van de Pol said Thursday that William Andrew Pope, 69, remains missing a week after his disappearance from his home in the 400 block of Macquinna Place in Qualicum Beach.

“The search was scaled back, but we are asking people to be vigilant if they see anybody who meets his description,” van de Pol said. “We have had a couple of people call us to say they might have seen this individual, but they were not accurate. However, we follow up any leads we might get.”

Similarly, he added, police have no leads on the whereabouts of Sharon Gayle Dawson, who left her home on Crescent Road on Christmas Day and was last seen three days later at the World Parrot Refuge in Coombs. She has not been in contact with family or friends since that time.

“The lady is still missing and we have no updates at all on that file,” he said. “We haven’t had any tips or leads to follow up on.”

Again, van de Pol urged residents to report anything at all to do with the case, even if it seems too minor to bother about.

“If people know something or hear something, let us know, for the sake of the families. No information is too small. You might think it’s not important, but let us know and let us decide.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the RCMP at 250-240-6111.
