MP wants action on high gasoline prices

Gord Johns stood in the House of Commons and demanded action from the federal government

Vancouver Islanders are being hit with some of the largest disparities in gas prices and on Tuesday, NDP MP Gord Johns (Courtenay-Alberni) demanded action from the federal government to tackle ongoing price gouging at the pumps.

"Last week in my community... the price of gas was $1.16 a litre. It was the highest in the country, more than the Northwest Territories," Johns said Tuesday standing in the House of Commons.

While the price of crude oil hovers around $30/barrel, Johns said a new report from the Bank of Canada confirms the drop in world commodities oil prices has failed to produce matching reductions in the price of gas Canadians pay.

"I want to know what this government will do to protect consumers, to have fairness at the pump and take price gouging seriously," said Johns.
