It was standing room only at a public hearing for Fairwinds’ Schooner Cove OCP amendment application on Tuesday evening in Nanoose Bay.
Nanoose Bay director George Holme said people both voiced concerns about the development and spoke in support of it. If approved the development would see a network of boardwalks, greens, plazas and pathways, 2,323 m2 of commercial shops and services, a full-service marina and 360 new residential condominium units.
Holme said he was surprised by the amount of people that attended, as there was a hockey game happening at the same time.
“Yes [I was surprised] by the fact the Canucks were playing but no by the fact that it’s a very serious subject here in Nanoose Bay and a lot of people have concerns.”
Dale Lindsay, Manger of Current Planning with the RDN, said the RDN board will now receive a summary of the public hearing minutes and then eligible board members will vote on the application for consideration of third reading.
This could happen as early as the May 24, he said, and if not, at the next scheduled meeting on June 28.
A public hearing on The Lakes District is set to happen Monday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at Nanoose Place.
