Northwest Bay Road has re-opened to the public after a closure that stretched a week longer than scheduled.
The area of Gabriola Drive to Terrien Road had been closed to allow for the replacement of culverts at Craig Creek.
The work is not yet finished, but residents and visitors should expect some easing of traffic concerns that were briefly compounded by paving work on the south end.
There will be single-lane alternating traffic during the day while contractors continue to work.
After hours, the road will be open to two-way traffic. The City of Parksville says people should still expect some delays while travelling the route. The road will also remain unpaved until mid-September.

“We ask for the patience of the public while the contractor completes this work as efficiently and safely as possible. For the public’s safety, all signs and instructions provided by traffic control must be obeyed,” said Deb Tardiff, City of Parksville communications manager.
The closure, compounded with paving on the south end of Northwest Bay road, drew the ire of some Nanoose Bay residents. Some people reported waiting up to 30 minutes to drive out of the area.
The company responsible for the paving, Mainroad Mid Island Contracting LP, decided to postpone their project until further notice.
