Neighbours expressed support for a rezoning application by a Parksville business owner during a public hearing on Jan. 16.

Kevin Dorland, who owns and operates Oceanside Irrigation Doctor Ltd. from his property at 285 Pioneer Crescent, is asking to have his property rezoned from single family residential to comprehensive development. The change would allow the continued operation of Dorland’s existing home-based irrigation business, according to a report to council by Blaine Russell, director of community planning and building.

Russell added the city received 17 pieces of correspondence related to the application, with 15 appearing to be in favour.

Two neighbours spoke in person in support of Dorland’s application, saying they had experienced no issues with noise or visual intrusions related to the business.

Council will vote on third reading for the rezoning bylaw during its Feb. 6 meeting. If third reading is passed, it will proceed to final adoption at the Feb. 22 meeting.

Dorland appeared at council’s Nov. 21 regular meeting and gave a presentation on the zoning bylaw amendment application.
