Work is underway on the Parksville Community Park sports field.

Work is underway on the $388,325 reconstruction of the Community Park sports field with the replacement of the irrigation and drainage system and the top 30 cm of sand, soil and turf.

Director of Operations Alan Metcalf said in the past that while the field has served the city well, it was built in the 1970s and closures due to drainage and other problems are becoming more common.

The contract was unanimously awarded to J.A.D. Enterprises, which has done similar work in the past.

The city received a $177,275 federal grant towards the work from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund but still had to advance $29,460 from their accumulated surplus.

The work is scheduled to be done mid-September.
