New Parksville council approves committee appointments

Mayor and councillors appointed as voting members and liaisons

Council portfolios and committee appointments were approved during Parksville city council’s inaugural regular meeting on Nov. 7.

The following appointments are effective until Nov. 6, 2023, according to a news release from the city:

Audit Committee: Mayor Doug O’Brien, Coun. Mary Beil, Coun. Amit Gaur;

Parcel tax roll review panel: All members of council (Community Charter - Section 204)

Appointments to boards, commissions and associations (voting):

Arrowsmith Water Service Management Board: Mayor Doug O’Brien. Alternate: Coun. Joel Grenz;

Englishman River Water Service Management Board: Mayor Doug O’Brien, Coun. Joel Grenz;

Municipal Insurance Association of BC: Mayor Doug O’Brien, Alternate: Coun. Joel Grenz;

Regional District of Nanaimo Board of Directors: Mayor Doug O’Brien, Coun. Sean Wood. Alternates: Coun. Joel Grenz, Coun. Mary Beil;

Vancouver Island Regional Library Board: Coun. Mary Beil. Alternate: Coun. Sylvia Martin.

Appointments to boards, commissions and associations (liaisons):

The role of a liaison is to keep lines of communication open between council and the respective committees, societies and groups. Liaisons do not vote.

Access Oceanside Association: Coun. Amit Gaur;

Advisory Design Panel: Coun. Mary Beil;

Ballenas Track Renewal Steering Committee: Mayor Doug O’Brien, Coun. Joel Grenz;

Ballenas Secondary School Student Groups/Liaison to Youth: Coun. Amit Gaur, Coun. Mary Beil;

Early Learning and Childcare Council in Oceanside: Coun. Mary Beil;

Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region: Coun. Sylvia Martin;

Nature Trust Brant Festival: Coun. Adam Fras;

Oceanside Community Arts Council: Coun. Mary Beil;

Oceanside Task Force on Homelessness: Coun. Sylvia Martin;

Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce: Coun. Mary Beil;

Parksville and District Historical Society: Coun. Adam Fras;

Parksville Beach Festival Society: Coun. Amit Gaur;

Parksville Downtown Business Association: Coun. Sylvia Martin;

The next regular council meeting is set for Nov. 21.
