No charges after vehicle crashes into Parksville traffic control box

No charges are being laid following a single-vehicle collision that destroyed a traffic signal controller box at a Parksville intersection on Monday (Jan. 16).

Oceanside RCMP responded to the collision at the intersection of Moilliet Street North and Highway 19A at approximately 3 p.m., according to Sgt. Shane Worth.

A Hyundai Tucson traveling eastbound on Moilliet Street collided with the traffic lights and traffic light control box at the intersection, Worth said.

“The driver was not impaired, however they may have been temporarily suffering from a medical issue or were distracted,” he added.

The driver was transported by ambulance to be assessed for non-life threatening injuries.

Crews will be on site on Jan. 20, starting at 8:30 a.m., to install a temporary signal control, according to a news release by the City of Parksville.

Installation work will occur for most of the day and the is expected to take about seven hours, the release said. Crews will limit the duration of the signal outage as much as possible.

“During the repairs, traffic will be controlled in all directions for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. Please be patient and obey traffic control personnel,” the release read. “We appreciate your patience.”
