Doug O’Brien is getting an early start.
O’Brien issued a release this week, announcing his candidacy for mayor of the City of Parksville. Municipal elections are set for Oct. 15, 2022.
“Since October 2018, I have served as an elected councillor of the City of Parksville,” he said. “During that time I was appointed as liaison to Parksville Beach Festival Society, Accessible Oceanside Association, Ballenas Track Renewal Steering Committee, alternate director, Regional District of Nanaimo and currently chairman of the Englishman River Water Service Management Board.
O’Brien indicated his priorities as mayor will include:
• Securing water resiliency and adequate potable water reservoir storage;
• Balanced housing strategy, ensuring inventory to satisfy all demographics and providing affordable housing needs;
• Safe pedestrian and bike-friendly community core, providing a seamless all accessible connection between our Community Park and downtown;
• Creating more trails and bike paths to build connectivity and healthy lifestyles recreation;
