Oceanside RCMP seize firearm during search of Parksville home

Oceanside RCMP seized an improperly stored and unlawfully possessed firearm from a residence in Parksville.

On the evening of March 30, Oceanside RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300-block of Rheumer Crescent. The search, according a press release, resulted in the seizure of an improperly stored firearm, which investigators also believe was unlawfully possessed.

A 50-year-old man was arrested at the residence while the search was conducted and he was subsequently released on bail to appear in court at a later date.

As this was a firearms investigation, the Emergency Response Team assisted with the search warrant execution.

Residents may have noticed a heavy police presence in the neighbourhood and police are advising the public of this incident in order to keep residents informed as best we can, says Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP. However, as this is an ongoing investigation and charges have not been laid, further detailed information cannot be released at this time.
