Parksville city council has approved the development of a mixed commercial and multi-use residential building along Hirst Avenue.
On Dec. 6, the city’s director of community planning and building, Blaine Russell, presented to council a development permit and development variance permit for the proposed three-storey building that will include commercial space on the ground level and eight residential units on the storeys above.
The above ground residential units will consist of two one-bedroom units, two one-bedroom units with a den and four two-bedroom units with a den.

The Hirst Avenue property is zoned for downtown commercial C–3, and is located within downtown development permit area.
The development variance permit was requested to increase the maximum allowable height from 11 metres to 12.8 metres to facilitate the proposed building’s architectural particulars.
According to Russell’s report presented to council, the proposed height is well within what has been envisioned within the Official Community Plan for the downtown core.
Council approved both permits at the Dec. 6 council meeting.
