One of the seven members of Parksville’s city council may be appointed to the Oceanside Task Force on Homelessness (OTFH).
At Monday’s (Dec. 20) city council meeting, Coun. Marilyn Wilson provided a notice of motion, indicating as such, in order to provide the City of Parksville representation, participation and dialogue, along with the other current Parksville Qualicum Beach partners.
Wilson’s motion will be discussed at the next council meeting on Jan. 17, 2022.

Formed in 2010, the OTFH aims to address homelessness and related issues in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area, covering the geographical region from Nanoose to Deep Bay, and inland towards Whiskey Creek.
The task force is currently co-chaired by Society of Organized Services executive director, Susanna Newton, Forward House Community Society executive director, Sharon Welch, and Island Crisis Care Society executive director, Violet Hayes.
Other task force members include representatives from the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Career Centre, the Manna Homeless Society, the Oceanside Health Centre, the Oceanside Homelessness Ecumenical Advocacy Response Team Society (OHEARTS), the Oceanside RCMP detachment, the Regional District of Nanaimo, the Town of Qualicum Beach and the Vancouver Island Regional Library.
