Parksville city council will vote on whether the city retains control of the Parksville Community Centre, nearly a year after the operations agreement with Parksville Community Centre Society was not renewed.
At the Monday, Oct. 18, Parksville council meeting, Coun. Doug O’Brien provided a notice of motion for the city to decline the $2-million Childcare BC New Spaces grant and for the city itself to retain function and management of the centre at 132 Jensen Ave.

During a brief discussion after the notice, Mayor Ed Mayne said, “We’ve done all the legal work, we’ve done it all… We’ve carried it to this point. If we wait and then decide that we’re not going to do it come next council meeting, we’ve gone even further than we should,” adding that he will not support the motion when it’s on the floor.
No further discussion was made by members of council.
A notice of motion is generally given before a substantive proposal is brought to council and formally discussed.
